I've noticed something similar. I had wondered if the serving temperature was having the effect of muting the malt, but I tried a couple at a slightly warmer-than-usual temperature and the piercing grapefruit acid was still the dominant note on the palate.

Don't get me wrong, I really like it, but I do miss the juxtaposition of hops and malt in the same mouthful.

MartinMartinhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08122623789276155279noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2743871471433418538.post-66139829970595644862007-10-24T14:29:00.000-07:002007-10-24T14:29:00.000-07:00Im pretty sure the saltyness is a by product of ha...Im pretty sure the saltyness is a by product of having dry hops in contact with the beer alittle to long. Im not a big fan of dry hopping as reckon it often leaves 'off' flavours in the beer.Kieran Haslett-Moorehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04562970144894398803noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2743871471433418538.post-60982276128834768072007-10-24T13:18:00.001-07:002007-10-24T13:18:00.001-07:00Hey chapsRe the slight salty note in the Epic, I'v...Hey chaps

Re the slight salty note in the Epic, I've heard of folks adding a teaspoon of salt to the boil when they're brewing. Apparently it is supposed to increase the hop aroma when you drink the beer. I doubt this would account for the salty taste you experienced but it allegedly works.

P.S. Great news about the curry house, a decent Ruby is a yardstick of civilisation (along with beer cricket and a nice cup of tea)

Keep up the good work gents.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2743871471433418538.post-28942438392608464222007-10-24T13:18:00.000-07:002007-10-24T13:18:00.000-07:00This comment has been removed by the author.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2743871471433418538.post-43952349309001313172007-10-24T03:38:00.000-07:002007-10-24T03:38:00.000-07:00The Madras was nice and rich but could have used s...The Madras was nice and rich but could have used some heat. The palaak paneer was good but not eceptional. I just noticed this last night on draught at the Cock and Bull, and in fact accused the friends I was with of salting my pint while I wasn't looking. It was really unexpected. Maybe it's just the new batch.Greig McGillhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08159929906208157846noreply@blogger.com
