It was a 5 am start today. Today is the last brew day for the late summer ales fest in march. I mashed in early so I can be all cleaned up, home and hosed in time to have a wee poke around and tasting session at Shed 22 Macs Brewery this evening. I’m brewing a new beer today, Festival Gold is a single varietal brew combining Golden Promise pale ale malt and copious amounts of Goldings hops. I think it will be a cracker.

Tasting at Shed 22 eh? Looking to see just how much sugar a beer can stand before it ceases being beer? ;)

sometimes its 4.30, I rather enjoy brewing by brewers hours.

I don't do unfair! I just remember Mac's being much better before the buyout, and the sugar.
Actually Barry the beer you tasted was Somerset Summer Ale but hopefully Festival Gold will turn out as well.
I'm with you Greig! i won't go back to the brewery bar after seeing the huge vat of liquid sugar they're using to brew though the window!
I'm pro sugar so I would never be swayed by the use of sugar alone. If you like German purity then frankly I'm suspicious of you in a wider sense!
I'm not a huge fan of the Macs beers in general, Great White is pretty good and just before it ran out the most recent Brewjolais tasted like Youngs Special London used to.
I would take a Macs beer over a CF Montieths anyday.
I must admit that you can usually find a few Hop Rockers in my beer fridge. I sort of agree with Kieran in that I prefer Mac's to Monteith's (if nothing better is available) although my guilty pleasure is that I really liked the Monteith's Summer "Ale".
