Pickled Eggs

If there is one thing that makes my friends who have lived in the UK go glassy eyed and reminisce about their time in the Motherland it’s the mention of pickled eggs. Pickled eggs are a bar snack that divides people sharply, a love hate situation where many of the haters are so reviled by the idea that they never let the delicacy pass their lips. I on the other hand was fascinated by the prospect, I love eggs and I’m partial to pickled foods so I set out to pickle my own.

After a bit of research I decided on a recipe of vinegar, habanero chilli, cumin seed, black pepper, and cardamom. After 2 weeks in the solution the eggs are rich, tart and spicy, perfect with a pint, even better in a sandwich with crisps and mayo. I’m a fan.

Happy new year!

You very rarely see pickled eggs in pubs in the UK these days. Maybe I should make some too.

I don't like eggs but I like pickled eggs. It's years since I've had one, I'm now going to see if I've got a jar big enough to make some!

They'll go really well with a nice pint of brown ale and a dusting of white pepper.

When me and my brother were little, one of our favourite back-step-of-the-pub snacks was a bag of cheese and onion crisps with a pickled egg dropped into it. Fantastic!

I noticed when researching this post that there are pubguide websites devoted entirly to what bar snacks they offer. So English, fantastic.

I love pickled eggs. Podge makes his own and sells them at Chelmsford Beer Festival. They are very good indeed.

They're excellent. The Wenlock sell them and I usually have one whenever I visit.

There's a landlord in Oxford who sticks one in your bag of crisps and gives it a shake before handing the delicacy over.

Hater here, love eggs but don't care for pickled anything.

As a hater I see pickled eggs everywhere.

Pickled eggs are the most fun you can have with your clothes on ! (I wonder if they taste even better in the nuddy ?)
A pickled egg in a bag of crisps is a fantastic combination, salt and vinegar works best.
