Yeastie Boys Are GO!

Last week I attended the launch of the first beer from the Yeastie Boys at Bar Edward, a new player in NZ beer scene. Yeastie Boys is the brainchild of fellow SOBA founder and Wellington Homebrewer Stu McKinlay and rate beer extraordinaire Sam "The Grandmaster" Possenniskie. They are currently contract brewing seasonal releases at Steve Nalley’s Invercargill Brewery. The first release is a highly hopped porter called Pot Kettle Black, which I’m told is a Wilco Song, musical theme here Beastie Boys, Yeastie Boys, get it? Despite not being a style I would normally get into it’s a damn tasty drop and was very good through the handpump, particularly once the sparkler was banished. The next release for Summer is a hoppy golden ordinary bitter, I cant wait.

Again Photos by Adam, cheers!

Thanks for the plug Kieran. Thanks also for the present - a bottle of Merchant of the Devil. There is no better present, for me, than a special bottle of beer. And to give such a special one on the release of our first commercial beer is fantastic (beer spotters can see it in the background of the bottom pic in this post, well they can see the paper bag that it was wrapped in!). Can't wait to taste it but also enjoy thinking about how it is getting better every day that I leave it. It's like Christmas every day!

and thank you sir for the hospitality at the release. We disappeared across the road afterwards for a curry where Sarah demanded we order a round of lager and everything got a little hazy, the cab driver refused to accept the credit card , I think...

Damn the lager!

And thanks again for the cheese as well. This is coming across like a thank-you-fest, so I'll cut it now.

Nice to have you back online, when you are not here I just keep returning to the Stuff article on Yeastie Boys, or looking at the Ratebeer list of best beers in NZ.

Yeah me too....got a bit boring after a while until PKB got to number one in NZ!
Kieran, why no rating of PKB on ratebeer?

maybe because he will be bringing it down from the #1 spot

(that's some reverse pyschology I'm attempting there)
